Johnson County Patient

Like most people, Dan went to the family dentist when he was growing up in his small town. Most of his family memeber still go to the same office. It wasn't until Dan moved away from home that he switched dentists, choosing one closer to where he lived. He didn't think much about his dentist until he turned fifty, and then it seemed that things started to go wrong. He needed a crown, then a root canal, and, "it started to feel like something was just not right," he says.

So when a friend recommended Schutte & McKnight Dentistry to Dan, he was receptive to the idea of changing dentists. He had begun to feel that his old dentist waited until a problem became a crises, and Dan preferred to take a more preventive approach to his oral health. Dan says, "It's not like when you go to the doctor because you are sick. I feel like I go to the dentist because I want to be proactive."

Dan made an appointment with Dr. McKnight and he says that first visit convinced him he should have made a switch years earlier. "I knew more about my teeth after leaving that first visit than I ever knew before." -Dan, patient

What made the difference?

Dan says that he immediately felt comfortable talking to Dr. McKnight about dental issues. He learned that some of his older fillings were not sufficient to seal out decay. He appreciated that Dr. McKnight was able to x-ray his mouth using a sensor connected to a computer, so she could immediately show him what was going on inside his mouth. Additionally, the photographs she took of his teeth allowed him to see things from her perspective. "I'm not just taking her word that there's a problem. I can see it mysef," Dan says. He even found the Schutte & McKnight offices more relaxing than other dental offices he's visited. He found the office calming and not as institutional or cold.

"I was sort of angry with my old dentist after I switched. He could have prevented so many problem. It was a dramatic change for me." -Dan, patient

Dan says he would recommend changing dentists to anyone who isn't completely satisfied with the care they are getting now. He says, "If you have the chance to go to a dentist who is knowledgeable and has the newest technology, it's worth switching. For me, the best dentist is the one who does is right the first time."
